Obituary: ""Morry"" William Morrison Cushing


William Morrison Cushing passed away on April 30, 1999 due to complications of aging.
Dad was born February 8, 1911 in Salt Lake City to Isabella Morrison and William Oren Cushing. "Mocu" or "Morry" was very active in all sports for many years. His Granite High Basketball Team took state in 1929; then went to take second in the national tourney. Dad was named to the All American Team that year. He attended The College of Southern Utah, Weber College, and Utah State, lettering in track, football, and basketball.He was the last surviving member of his family and was preceded in death by his loving wife, Madeline on November 23, 1998. Survived by his sons, John R.; Rulon; Roger; and Robert Cushing.
As a barber for many years in Bountiful and North Salt Lake he was kind of a "Pied Piper" and confidant for generations of kids. He was known in the community by his slogan, "Hair today gone to Morry." He was known as Santa to many and danced all over the country with Madeline. He will be missed by family and friends.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 4, 1999, 10:30 a.m., at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 So. 1700 E., Sandy, UT. In lieu of flowers give someone a hug!!
Obituary for Nellie Marie Cushing, Wife of Ralph Cushing


Nellie Marie Cushing, 81, of Blackfoot, ID, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007 at the Beacon Hospital and Rehab Center of Pocatello, ID of complications due to health problems. Marie was born November 29, 1925 in Grace, Idaho to Hector Thomas Evans and Hannah Braddock Evans. She grew up in Ogden, Utah with her mother and father and ten siblings. She married Ralph Walter Cushing May 8, 1947 in Malad, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 30, 1971. 

She lived in numerous places from the East to the West coasts of the United States, Cuba and other foreign countries, due to her husband, Ralph's, career in the US Navy. Upon retirement from the Navy, they moved back to Utah, where Ralph worked for the Railroad for 14 years. They lived in Syracuse, Hurricane and Fountain Green, Utah. 

Marie's Happy Energy caused her to have many friends wherever she lived. She was a beautician and and accomplished seamstress. Her hobbies and spare time activities included gardening and animals, particularly her registered Show Dogs. Not having children of their own, they shared an endearment with their many nieces and nephews. 

Marie was a member of The Church of Latter-day Saints where she served in many church assignments, including Relief Society, teaching Primary and Sunday school children. She loved music, playing the piano and singing in the church choirs. 

In 2003, by necessity of health problems, she asked her niece, Dianne Transtrum, of Blackfoot, Idaho to assist her in her needs as her guardian. Marie moved to Blackfoot in the fall of 2005 and has been a resident of Rosetta Assisted Living where she received tender and loving care from her nurses and staff.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, her parents; her brothers, Hector R. Evans, Waldo E. Evans, Noble B. Evans, Robert H. Evans, William Noel Evans and Richard Thomas Evans; sisters, Catherine Mary, Melba, Hannah Lenore and LaDonna. 

A memorial service will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Syracuse 4th Ward LDS Building, 1625 South 1100 West, Syracuse, Utah. Interment will be in the Syracuse Cemetery under the direction of the Hawker Funeral HOme, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho.
